Working Together to Provide
Every Child Opportunities to Excel

Dance

Our dance program offers a variety of classes for all levels of ability and interest. Most dancers started in a simple preschool or recreational class and learn the love of dance. Whether it be Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical or Hip Hop we offer it all! Our dancers have performed in National Dance Competitions from Las Vegas to Lakeland. You've probably seen our girls in many local parades or performances around Tampa.

Showstar and performance teams strive to keep our members educated in the art of dance and performing, all while developing the discipline and appreciation for the art of dance. Our classes are designed to instill character, good citizenship and sportsmanship, and advance leadership skills. All of these qualities are important to our program but most importantly we build up a positive self-image and teach our students to have fun!

ELIGIBILITY:

Members are evaluated by the teachers every year during the spring for the following year. The students are then reviewed by program director, dance director, and dance staff. They are then placed with in the showgroup/performance team levels.

PERFORMANCES:

Team members of that group must attend all performances regardless of whether or not you are performing. If your group is asked to perform, it is NOT OPTIONAL to attend. It is a privilege to be a part of our team. However, you will be excused from a performance or class if the teacher knows one month in advance, or it is a severe emergency.

It is possible that a member might not perform at every performance. Reasons for not performing may include:

  • Missing rehearsals or dress rehearsal before a performance

  • Not knowing the routine – each member will need to audition for each number that they are in before performing

  • Disciplinary actions

  • Being on probation for inappropriate behavior

Can I still practice if I am injured?

We take injuries very seriously. If you get hurt in or outside of class, you may be asked to sit out of practice until you present the teacher with a doctor’s note clearing you to resume dance activities.

Can I sit down during practice?

No one sits down during a class or rehearsal unless we are taking a break, or you are specifically asked to sit and watch a group perform. There is always something you can be working on.

What type of behavior is expected during classes?

Being disrespectful to a coach or fellow dancer. We expect respectful attitudes out of all of our dancers. All students must display excellent behavior and listening skills in class, and are expected to be positive role models for their non-competitive peers. Dancers must be able to accept positive criticism and constant corrections from instructors with a positive attitude.

Can I bring any electronics to practice?

All electronics must either be turned off or set to “silent mode” during class or rehearsals.

What events am I responsible for attending?

You are responsible for participating in all team events, such as fundraisers, special events, performances, etc. unless, otherwise instructed.

Can I talk during practice?

Practices should be silent, with the exception of the person teaching the routines. Anyone who consistently talks during instruction will be given a warning. If the talking continues he/she may be placed on probation or dismissed from that practice, class, or routine.

What happens if I miss a practice?

If you miss a class or practice, you must make up the material you missed BEFORE the next practice. It is your responsibility to make up missed work. You must notify a teacher prior to practices if you will be absent. Having another team member “pass on the message” is not acceptable.

What should I wear to my showstar class?

Black Showstar Leotards and Pink tights. Hair should be pulled back out of face – Buns or ponytails, no bangs. Appropriate dance shoes for the style of class you are attending. Please wear cover ups when entering and exiting dance rooms and facility. No dangling jewelry should be worn to class.
